Hybrid kits worth mixing after rank 10 — and the fragments you actually have to earn.
Specialist is not a seventh fixed job. It is a blank board that borrows abilities, perks, and signatures you unlocked on Marauder, Duelist, Machinist, Hunter, and Medic. S-tier here means “this mix covers a real hole in a four-stack.” C-tier means “fun in Standard, thin on Intense Horde.” Ratings assume you actually have the source kits near rank 10. A Specialist with two kits at rank 4 is just a confused Duelist.
S — Cryo controller
Hunter Particle Pulse / Cryo Pulse plus a Machinist or Marauder round-clear tool. You freeze runners, your squad dumps weak-point damage, then you rotate. Horde loves this when the faction is Xenomorphs; it is merely fine into synthetics, so keep an electric primary on the gun. Patch 1 made generated weak points on synths visible to clients — Hunter fragments are honest in mixed-platform parties now.
S — Turret hybrid (Machinist + Hunter or Duelist)
Sentry plus Bodyguard (Shredder or artillery) with a Hunter mark or Duelist sustained primary. This is the “hold Crash Landed stairs” marine. Patch 1: Gas and Cryo turrets no longer run dry; Bodyguard no longer deploys on the wrong floor; Software Update, Brute, Piercing Rounds, and Exterminator apply to Bodyguard. If your Specialist turret still feels empty, you are on a pre-patch board.
A — Unkillable paladin (Medic core)
Combat Stims (Adrenaline / Overclock) plus Trauma Station (Buffing or Poison) plus a Marauder or Duelist gun for when the line is already in the room. Launch has no cheap mass revive if four humans are down. This mix exists to prevent the wipe. Doctor’s Orders and Bedside Manner replicate for clients after Patch 1. Super Serum no longer pauses stamina while sprinting — you can actually rotate.
A — Explosive Duelist hybrid
Two primaries plus Explosive Rounds / Residual Explosives. Preview builds called this a trap. Patch 1 removed the extra 25 percent penalty on Explosive Rounds, cut Residual Explosives from 40 percent to 15 percent, and set 25/75 direct/area with weak-point conversion in the text. It is A, not S, because you still pay weak-point tax and you still need a teammate for Sirens. Pair with weapons tier.
B — Stealth / weak-point assassin
Hunter No Mercy / No Rest with a Duelist precision rifle. Deletes elites if the squad holds space. Dies first if you took it into Crusher’s mine alone. Good campaign flex, mediocre pub Horde.
C — Four-ability souvenir
One fragment from each kit because the menu let you. You will lose adjacency bonuses and Combat Rating density. Finish Progression before you collect stamps.
How to read this with a squad
A four-Specialist lobby can work on Standard and fail on Intense Horde because nobody brought a real Trauma Station or overlapping turrets. Use the squad planner and Horde builds. Specialist rank still grows its own perk board — playing Specialist is how you expand that board, but the pieces still come from the five kits.

You need the specific fragments on the source kits. Rank 10 on a kit opens its deep catalogue. A Specialist with two kits levelled cannot run a five-kit fantasy board.
Is explosive Duelist Specialist good after Patch 1?
It is no longer a trap. Extra damage penalties were cut. Weak-point conversion still exists, so it sits in A-tier hybrids, not automatic S.
Should four players all run Specialist in Horde?
Only if the four boards still cover turret, stims, and a heavy. Four generalists with no Trauma Station is how Intense rounds end on wave three.
Do Horde-only perks work on Specialist?
Horde-only nodes still require Horde play and still only function in Horde. Campaign fragments all carry in.
