Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Tips and Tricks
Launch-week habits that keep fireteams alive from Prologue to Insane Horde.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 launched 25 August 2026 with Patch 1 already applied. The sequel hits harder than the original: denser swarms, four-player assumptions, and peer-to-peer sessions with region matchmaking. These tips are the habits that separate clean clears from extraction wipes — pair them with Getting Started, Best Beginner Class, and How to Play.
Combat fundamentals
Sidearm discipline. Primary magazines are for swarm events and elites. Use the sidearm on lone Runners, cleanup kills, and quiet rooms. Emptying a pulse rifle before the scripted defence is how Standard turns into a scramble.
Melee is crowd control. A shove interrupts a lunging Runner long enough to reload, swap, or roll. Treat melee as space creation, not a DPS rotation.
Reload between doors. Every quiet stretch before an objective is free prep. Top off every gun and check ability charges before you pull the next trigger volume.
Stay in visual range. Encounter density assumes four marines nearby. Splitting for loot is how pubs get isolated and deleted — especially on Intense with friendly fire live.
Call ammo and downs early. Shared crates and revive windows are squad resources. Silent “I’m empty” is a wipe with extra steps.
Elemental and faction thinking
Horde and late campaign rotate pressure across Xenomorphs, Pathogen, and Weyland-Yutani synthetics. Fire and cryo punish bugs differently than electricity on chrome. After Patch 1, elemental ammo stacks with itself and refills matching elemental weapons — build a plan per faction instead of one universal magazine. Enemy behaviours: Enemy Dossier. Horde faction rolls: Horde Maps.
Stumble and slow beat raw DPS on Extreme and Insane. A frozen or staggered elite takes less squad HP than a DPS race you lose halfway.
Loadouts and progression
- Buy armory staples early so mission rewards and caches lean toward guns you still need — How to Unlock Weapons.
- Stars and augments matter; Patch 1 rewrote explosive augment math — re-read Weapon Augments before copying pre-launch boards.
- Fill the perk board as ranks open. An empty board is free difficulty.
- Level all five kits toward Specialist with How to Farm XP instead of maining one forever.
Challenge Cards without griefing yourself
Four cards can stack. That is power and danger. Use XP or credit cards on maps you already know. Never experiment with “no HUD” plus ammo starve on your first Blacksite Horde night. Vote as a squad; random lethal stacks are how Mixed Steam reviews get written. Rules: Challenge Cards.
Co-op and platforms
- Crossplay is on at launch across Steam, Epic, PS5, and Xbox — Crossplay.
- Sessions are peer-to-peer; Patch 1 added region-based matchmaking, not dedicated servers. Host quality still matters.
- You cannot join a mission mid-run for free loot — Patch 1 also closed the integer duplication exploit from mid-joins.
- Private lobbies and invites: Play With Friends.
PC and launch quirks
Steam reviews swung from Mostly Negative to Mixed as longer sessions arrived; stutter and frame pacing remain the loudest PC complaint. Patch 1 did not list an engine pacing fix. Cap FPS to refresh, cut volumetric fog, disable overlays, and give shaders a second session — PC settings and Known Issues.
Horde shop UI sometimes opens empty: wait and reopen. Horde not showing after campaign: finish Endeavor officer dialogue — Unlock Horde.
Squad roles that just work
Pub-proof four: Machinist + Marauder + Medic + Duelist. Organised double-turret: Machinist + Machinist + Medic + Hunter. Solo: Machinist first. Planner: Squad Planner. Builds: Horde Builds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.
What is the single best tip for new players?
Stay on Casual or Standard, pick Machinist or Duelist, and never split from the squad for loot. Map knowledge beats heroic flanking.
Do I need voice chat?
Text works on Casual. Intense and Horde reward push-to-talk for ammo, flanks, and extract calls.
Should I save abilities for bosses?
Use them on cooldown during learning. Building the habit matters more than hoarding a panic button you never press.
Are pre-launch tip videos still valid?
Combat feel is close, but Patch 1 changed explosive perks, closed dupes and skips, and fixed several companion perks. Prefer post-24 August guides.
Where do I go after these tips?
Finish Getting Started, then Campaign Walkthrough, Unlock Horde, and Farm XP toward Specialist.
