Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 How to Farm XP Fast

Reliable Intense clears beat greedy Extreme wipes — level five kits toward Specialist.

How to Farm XP Fast

Unlocking the Specialist means taking Marauder, Duelist, Machinist, Hunter, and Medic to Rank 10. That is a real grind. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 rewards finished missions more than theoretical high multipliers — a fifteen-minute Intense clear you finish every time beats a twenty-five-minute Extreme wipe at extraction. This guide covers the loop, Challenge Cards, campaign farms, Horde cash-outs, and perk-board hygiene after Patch 1.

Golden rule: finish the run

Class XP lands on the kit you are wearing when the mission completes. Weapon XP tracks equipped guns. Failed missions waste time and cards. Climb difficulty only when lower tiers feel boring and your squad clears without panic buys.

Suggested ladder:

Class rankDifficultyGoal
1–3Casual / StandardLearn abilities, fill early perk slots
4–7IntenseMain farm band — best XP per hour for most squads
8–10Intense / ExtremeStack XP cards on maps you already know
Rank 10Extreme / InsaneEndgame builds, not leveling projects

Carry strong weapons while leveling a weak kit. You do not need to “prove” Rank 1 Machinist with starter guns — use your best pulse rifle or shotgun so the run stays short.

Challenge Cards multiply XP — carefully

All four marines can bring a Challenge Card. Effects stack. That is the fastest legal XP spike in the sequel. Coordinate so you do not combine “half ammo” with “no HUD” on a map nobody knows. Save high-value XP cards for routes you have already cleared clean twice.

Good farm habits:

  • Pick Intense as the base multiplier sweet spot for most fireteams.
  • Extreme and Insane pay more per clear but often lose XP per hour if clear times balloon.
  • Rotate who spends premium cards so one player does not empty their inventory in a night.
  • Read card text after Patch 1 — several combat perks changed, and old preview videos lie.

Full card rules: Challenge Cards.

Campaign farm: Rock Bottom Mission 2

A reliable general-purpose farm is Campaign 4, Mission 2 (Rock Bottom arc). Combat beats are predictable, objectives do not wander forever, and a competent squad can turn it into a repeatable Intense loop. First two runs: learn encounter rooms and safe ability placements. Then add XP cards.

Brand-new Rank 1 kits should start on Campaign 1, Mission 1 instead. Learn the class rhythm on forgiving ground before you force a farm route. Mission list and bosses: Campaign Walkthrough.

While farming, open the glowing orange Hidden Cache when it is a short detour — cards and consumables fund the next XP stack.

Horde as an XP printer (after unlock)

Horde is gated. Finish the campaign, talk through Endeavor officer dialogue, then open Game Modes — How to Unlock Horde. Once open, five-wave rounds with a shop between rounds are excellent XP if you extract instead of greed-wiping.

Farm posture:

  • Machinist holds chokepoints; Hunter slows lanes; Marauder deletes elites; Medic prevents downs (downs deal zero DPS and zero XP).
  • Extract when ammo, health, and credit economy look thin. Another wave is not worth losing the banked XP.
  • Faction rolls (Xenomorphs, Pathogen, synthetics) change elemental needs — swap ammo types between rounds. Maps: Horde Maps. Strategy: How to Beat Horde.

Class notes while grinding

  • Duelist — strong when packs funnel; do not confuse aggressive with reckless.
  • Hunter — trap placement is squad DPS; slowing elites keeps the XP clock running.
  • Machinist — best defensive farm anchor; Patch 1 fixed gas/cryo turrets running dry and Bodyguard floor bugs.
  • Marauder — shortens elite fights; watch friendly fire on Intense+.
  • Medic — a living squad generates more XP than a glass DPS who downs twice per mission.

Perk board and economy

Spend perk points as soon as slots open. An empty board at Rank 6 feels like a weaker class than it is. Update the board when you move from Standard to Intense. Buy armory staples so Hidden Caches and mission rewards lean toward guns you still need — details on How to Unlock Weapons.

PC stutter can make farming miserable even when the strategy is right. Cap FPS and cut fog via PC settings before you blame the route.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.

What is the fastest XP difficulty?

Intense for most squads. Extreme and Insane pay more per clear but often lose XP per hour if you wipe or slow down. Finish rate beats the sticker multiplier.

Do Challenge Cards stack?

Yes. Up to four cards — one per marine — can apply together. Stack manageable risks, not four wipe cards on an unfamiliar map.

Should I farm Horde or campaign?

Campaign farms work before Horde unlocks. After unlock, Horde with disciplined extracts is excellent XP. Use whichever your squad clears faster tonight.

Does dying lose XP?

Failed missions waste the run. Downs during a successful clear still let the mission complete, but time spent reviving tanks XP per hour.

Can I level Specialist directly?

You need the five core classes ranked first. Specialist rank expands later; fragments come from the cores you already played.
