Nintendo Switch 2 Release Guide

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 launched 25 August 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 version follows on 29 September 2026. Daybreak Game Company and Cold Iron Studios confirmed the date alongside the multi-platform launch. This page is the Switch 2 desk: date, how it differs from the old Switch cloud port, the promised discount for first-game Switch owners, and what wiki guides still apply. Editions and DLC: Editions. Crossplay today: Crossplay.

Confirmed date and store

PlatformStatus
PS5 / Xbox Series / Steam / EpicLive since 25 August 2026
Nintendo Switch 229 September 2026 via Nintendo eShop (digital confirmed)

Physical cartridge details for Switch 2 were not locked in the same press beat as the eShop date. Treat eShop digital as the sure path until Nintendo lists a cart. Pricing on Switch 2 should track the Standard $49.99 / Premium $69.99 SRP in local currency, but always check the eShop listing the week of launch.

Native play — not the Switch 1 cloud model

The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite on Nintendo Switch (2023) was cloud streaming. Those servers shut down on 5 August 2026, which left Switch owners unable to play the first game. Cold Iron stated that Fireteam Elite 2 on Switch 2 runs locally on the handheld — no cloud streaming requirement for the sequel.

That is the single most important Switch difference: performance and always-online policy will follow a native build, not the 2023 stream. Expect handheld/docked settings trade-offs similar to other Switch 2 shooters; exact presets will land closer to September. Until then, use PC/console guides for classes, weapons, and Horde rules — combat systems are shared.

Discount program for Switch 1 owners

After the Switch 1 server shutdown backlash, Cold Iron said it is working on a discounted voucher or credit toward Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 for players who bought the first game on Switch. Eligibility rules and redemption steps were not final as of late August 2026. Watch official Cold Iron / Daybreak channels — do not buy a third-party “code” claiming to be that voucher.

This wiki will update this section when Daybreak posts a dated redemption article. Until then, assume you still need a Switch 2 purchase (possibly discounted) to play the sequel on Nintendo hardware.

What carries from the current wiki

Cross-platform co-op, four-player squads, six classes, Specialist progression, Horde unlock, and Patch 1 perk math are the same design on all platforms. Read:

Crossplay between Switch 2 and the August platforms should be expected given day-one crossplay elsewhere, but confirm in the September patch notes before you promise a friend on Steam that docked Switch 2 will join their lobby on day one. Voice and invite flows may differ on Nintendo’s network stack.

Editions and DLC on Switch 2

Expect Standard, 40th Anniversary Premium, the $19.99 Premium upgrade path, and Rain’s Jackson’s Star Pack ($9.99 Romulus cosmetics) to appear on the eShop the way they did on other stores — Rain pack detail. Cosmetics never gate Specialist or Horde. If a Switch 2 bundle differs, this page will note the SKU.

Practical advice before 29 September

  1. Finish or skip the PS5/Xbox/PC version based on whether you want Patch 1 content now.
  2. If you owned Switch 1 Fireteam Elite, keep proof of purchase for the future discount program.
  3. Wishlist the Switch 2 page on the eShop when it appears.
  4. Do not confuse “fall 2026” marketing from early August with the locked 29 September date.
  5. PC stutter guides do not apply to Switch 2 — wait for handheld-specific settings after launch.
  • Updates hub — Patch 1 and known issues on live platforms.
  • System requirements — PC only; Switch 2 has no Steam-like PC sheet.
  • Official links — Daybreak press and store fronts.
  • Review — whether the co-op loop is for you before you buy twice.
